Building deeper connections with email
How many times have you heard the phrase “email is dead?”
Personally, I haven’t heard it a lot.
But if I did, I know that statement couldn’t be further from the truth.
You literally need an email to signup to almost anything.
Besides, how else are you going to get those sweet discounts at TJ Maxx?
Okay, jokes aside, email has been here eons longer than social media.
The more emails I’ve been writing and sending out, the more I’m enjoy email.
I’ve never really thought about it, but getting someone’s email builds a stronger connection.
“Why do you say that, Alex?”
Okay, hear me out.
On social media, you create an account.
You set up your bio, your profile picture and your banner pending on what platform you use.
And before you know it, you’re off to the races.
If you’re like me, you’ll probably search for your friends first.
When you hit that “follow” button, there is no commitment.
You click a button and that’s it.
But with email, it’s the total opposite.
You’re the one that gets to decide if you want people or companies sending you mail to your digital inbox.
I remember when I went inside a Banana Republic for the first time.
The store had a calm and relaxing atmosphere.
There was probably like 4 people in there.
I went inside because I was shopping for some church clothes.
My original plan was to look for dress shirts and dress pants.
As I made my way over to the Men’s section, I started browsing.
And my original plan went out the window lol.
Somehow, I ended up with a hoodie, a tee, and two polos.
I got to the cashier, and she asked me the question every cashier asks “would you like to signup to receive a 20% discount on today’s purchase?”
I almost always say no.
But this time, I said “yeah, let’s do it.”
All I needed to do was enter my email address.
And that’s the point I wanted to make.
Giving out your email address takes a lot more effort than hitting a “follow” button.
So, if you got to the end and you’re still reading this, thank you.
I feel privileged to get to send out these emails to you.
Thanks for reading and I hope you have a blessed rest of your day.
Your brother,
Alex “email is not dead” Garcia out.
