Just 30 more minutes
2 nights ago, I stayed up past my regular bedtime.
I was feeling like a zombie.
My eyes were closing by themselves.
I couldn’t keep them open even if someone had poured a bucket of cold water over my head.
And all I could think about was my head hitting that soft pillow and calling it a night.
It wasn’t even that late.
It was 12:30am.
But I’m usually in bed and knocked out by 11pm.
Why did I stay up?
I was doing some last-minute writing and engaging on Twitter.
After I did that, I was out like a light.
The next morning, my body naturally woke me up at 6am.
I was on 5½ hours of sleep.
As I got up out of my bed, I headed towards my desk, feeling groggy and lethargic.
I got to my desk and started praying.
I’m surprised I didn’t fall asleep.
My morning routine for the past 6 months has been praying and reading/studying my bible first thing in the morning.
After I finished my prayer, a thought came to me.
“I work at 9am today. Maybe I can get 30 more minutes of sleep.”
You can already tell where this is going lol.
I wandered back to my bed, laid down and was out.
When I woke back up, it was 8am.
I wasn’t running late to work.
But something unexpected happened.
I felt refreshed.
Almost as if I forgot how important getting your sleep actually is.
And that’s the lesson I wanted to share in today’s email that ended up being a happy accident.
That no amount of coffee, working out or power naps will refresh your mind and body like a good night’s rest.
If you feel tired and worn out throughout the day, you might not be getting enough sleep.
It’s easy to stay up late and sacrifice a few hours of sleep to watch one more episode of Naruto.
Or to play one more match of Warzone.
Or to work on building your online business from home.
But that’s going to have its effect on you the next day.
Don’t sacrifice your sleep to get “1 more thing done”.
Thanks for reading and have a blessed day.
Until next time my brothers and sisters,
Alex “get your sleep” Garcia out.
