Master the art of showing up

Have you ever felt like you’ve been slacking?

Like you’ve been putting whatever “the thing” is off?

Because recently I have.

Last week I didn’t send out my newsletter.

And I have zero excuses.

I had the time.

I just didn’t know what to write about.

I woke up Thursday morning and said, “I don’t have a topic for my newsletter today.

No one will probably care anyway.”

All it took was 3 seconds for me to write off my newsletter and talk myself out of it.

But I was wrong.

There is someone that cares.

That someone is me.

I care.

So today, I wanna share with you why I believe keeping your word to yourself is kind of a big deal.

Talk Your Talk. Walk Your Walk.

Now more than ever, we’re all a bunch of Chihuahuas (I’m mainly talking about myself here).

We can yap a big game.

But when the time comes to execute, we go silent and chicken out.

And that’s exactly how I felt after I intentionally missed Thursday (my usual newsletter posting day).

I’ll be honest.

I didn’t have a topic planned for today either.

I kinda just woke up this morning and said, “I can’t miss 2 weeks in a row”.

As you’re reading this, I’m still kinda piecing it together.

So now, you’re probably asking yourself, “why can’t you miss 2 weeks in a row?”

“What’s missing another week going to do?”

I don’t wanna miss another week because I’d be going against my word.

And the person I wanna keep my word with is with myself.

Even if nobody else notices it.

Even if nobody else asks.

I noticed it.

And it bothers me.

Because I know I can do better.

I know you can do better.

We’ve all made promises we couldn’t keep.

And I think we can’t keep them because we make promises to ourselves and break them like it’s normal.

But what would happen if we started keeping the promises we make with ourselves?

How different would that look like?

Master The Art Of Showing Up.

This is my new default protocol.

If I say something like “I’m going to workout today.”

I will do a max set of burpees (usually about 15-20 reps before I’m gasping for air).

And that’s it.

“What?”

“You call that working out?”

Is what you’re probably thinking.

And you’re right.

That’s not a proper workout session.

But I showed up.

If I say “I’m going to post 1x newsletter a week.”

And I send out a 250 word newsletter that week.

Guess what?

I still showed up.

The motive here is to keep my word.

No matter how small or how big the promise is, I’m still showing up.

And that’s what mastering the art of showing up will do for you.

Start out small and master the art of showing up first.

I hope this helps you keep your word to yourself, like it’s helped me.

Until next time my peeps.

Alex out.
