A mission that gets you out of bed
How do you come up with a mission that gets you out of bed?
A mission so exciting you no longer hit snooze?
I can’t say I have the answer to that.
What I can share is how I came up with my mission.
Imagine someone going to work for 8 hours, getting off and using the rest of their time to watch anime and play video games all day.
That was literally me.
I had no mission for my life.
And the funny part is that it wasn’t even that long ago that I was still doing that.
It was just 2 years ago that I was walking around like a zombie straight outta The Walking Dead.
My routine was literally going to work and finishing my night off with some One Punch Man or some Call of Duty.
On the outside it looked like I had some life in me.
That was a cheap lie.
I was nothing more than a hollow shell.
But then I was studying my bible one day when I landed on a passage of scripture that changed my life forever.
That passage is in 2 Timothy 4:6-8.
I don’t wanna give you a full sermon, but if you study those passages, the apostle Paul is in his last moments of life.
He’s in Roman captivity, waiting to see what would happen to him for preaching the gospel.
He’s writing this to his son in the faith, Timothy.
Hence why it’s called “2 Timothy.”
Here’s the passage where I found my life’s mission.
2 Timothy 4:6-7:
6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand.
7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
I’m no bible scholar or bible expert but what Paul says about “fighting the good fight, finishing the race, and keeping the faith.”, that’s where I got my life’s mission.
That’s what I want for my life.
As a follower of Christ, I wanna keep the faith.
I wanna finish the race.
I wanna fight the good fight.
When I pass away, I want someone to say that about me.
I want them to say something like “Alex fought the good fight, he finished the race, and he kept the faith. And now he’s with the Lord.”
This isn’t to impress man btw.
I live my life in a way that honors and pleases God.
That’s it.
Keeping the faith is my life’s mission.
And because that’s my mission, everything else that I do stems from that place.
What place?
The place of me keeping my faith, finishing this race of life and fighting the good fight as long as I can.
So, what’s this have to do with you?
I want you to imagine you’re at the end of your life.
You have no more fight left in you.
And suddenly poof you pass away.
What do you want people to say about you when you’re gone?
It’s a question that you have to sit and really think about.
Anyway, I just wanted to throw that out there and let it marinate in your mind.
Until next time my brothers and sisters,
Alex “follower of Christ” Garcia out.
