New shoes, new me

I’m not much of a runner.

The most miles I’ve ever run is 12.

And I didn’t even train for that.

I just kinda went out one day and said to myself, “ahh we’ll go a couple more miles.”

It was my day off, and I had nothing else going on.

I ran in these white chocolate like Under Armour shoes that had minimal specks of black.

Kinda like an Oreo.

They’re part of the “Rogue” series if you’re familiar with running shoes.

My knowledge is abysmal when we talk about shoes.

I’m more of a “oh those look kinda cool and they feel good,” kinda guy.

Anyway, let’s not chase that rabbit lol.

So, I had these white shoes, and they looked great, right?

But they felt terrible.

I had them for two years and I never switched em out.

I don’t know if running through puddles and torrential downpours has its effect on shoes.

But because I live on the Oregon coast, 70% of my runs are in the rain.

I have no choice lol.

And I guess I could go to my local gym and run on the treadmill.

But that’s boring.

At least for me it is.

So, not only was the cushion completely worn out, but they reeked.

It was not a pleasant smell.

I think those were the only pairs of shoes I always put in a box.

Not because they were “special” or “limited edition”.

Nah.

They smelt awful.

And for some unexplainable reason, I still had them.

Why?

It wasn’t because I didn’t have money.

It wasn’t because I was going to stop running.

It was because I felt like I didn’t need them.

In my mind, I thought, “these are working fine.”

But in reality, they were actually hurting my ankle.

And were making my feet hurt after my runs.

So, why do I share this story?

I share this because sometimes we think we’re not worthy of investing in ourselves.

We keep using tools that have lost their edge.

And we never invest in new ones.

But if we never invest in new tools, can we really expect to do the work with everything we’ve got?

Anyway, that’s all I got for ya’ll today.

Until next time.

Your brother,

Alex “invest in yourself” Garcia out.

P.S

Yes, I got new running shoes.

Right now, these are what I’m running in.
