The power to stop time
What would you do if you had the power to stop time?
One of the fastest ways I’ve found to slow time down is to sit back and be bored.
I know.
That’s probably not the answer you were looking for.
But seriously, when’s the last time you had a detox?
And no, I’m not talking about the type of detox that’ll clean your guts out.
Although maybe that wouldn’t be a bad idea lol.
Nah.
I’m talking about a digital detox.
This detox is the kind that limits your screen use.
And before you say it, no, I’m not a hater of modern technology.
That contradicts what I wanna do.
Which is to build an online writing business.
I just genuinely think that if we lessened our screen time, we would be better off.
I’ve said it countless times before.
There was a point where I was putting in a whole 2nd job worth of hours into my screens.
If I wasn’t grinding Call of Duty, I was watching some anime.
4,6, sometimes even 8 hours of screen time.
I know!!! Insane right?
My view of technology is really simple.
I see it as a tool.
An absurdly powerful tool at that.
But if I’m not careful, this tool will control my life.
And soon enough, I become the tool that’s getting used.
So, how do I make sure I’m not getting controlled by my screens?
I take what I call “the hybrid approach.”
“What is that?”
It’s just a fancy name for digital minimalism.
My aim is to limit the technology I use every day.
Ideally, I only wanna be using technology when I have deep work that’ll move my online business forward.
And maybe send a few texts here and there.
But that’s it.
After that, no screens.
Instead, I’ll go read a book.
Maybe I’ll go on a run.
Or
Invest some time with my family.
It doesn’t matter what I choose to do as long as I’m not behind a screen.
So, if you wanna slow time down, you know what to do.
Unplug from the screens.
And let yourself be bored.
That’s all I got for ya today.
I hope you have a blessed rest of your day and thanks for reading.
It’s your brother
Alex “the digital minimalist,” Garcia out.
P.S
I created a document with some tools I use every day to help me focus.
